Naming the books Ezra is a difficult matter,
  it isn’t just one of your casual games;
You may think I’m mad as a hatter
  when I tell you, an Ezra must have five different names.

First of all, there’s the name for the Orthodox,
  Following the order in Septuagint.
Which inverted chronology, this shocks,
  So later is A and earlier B in this print.

Second, there’s the name in Roman use,
  such as Jerome, who omitted the first in the Vulgate.
So the first is renumbered the third I deduce,
  I know, confusion this works to promulgate.

Along arrived the Hebrew-only Protestants,
  taking Ezra and Esdras twain as Jacob and James,
left Ezra alone in the canon in confidence
  and left outside are the 1 and 2 Esdras names.

But I tell you, scholars need names that’re particular,
  names that’re peculiar, and more dignified.
Else how can they keep up their spine perpendicular,
  or spread out its leaves, or cherish their pride?

For names of this kind, they use the language of origin,
  such as Greek Esdras and Hebrew Ezra, yet affix
a device spectacular for Slavonic, in recension Latin
  it’s numbered in trine: Five, four and six.

But above and beyond there’s still one name left over,
  and that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover —
  What’s it? you ask: Ne’er mind, eh.
